The novel variety Diana was identified in the 1960s by Attilio Sonnoli among fruit-bearing plants grown from selected seedlings. The mother plant was controlled for several years, and its clones showed promising characteristics in terms of productivity, adaptability, and oil quality. The plant is characterized by early ripening and good cold resistance.
